Your alarm during load shedding: the three things that fail

Panel batteries, gate motors and wifi cameras. What breaks, what does not, and what to check this weekend.

by Bastion control room

The alarm panel itself is fine for a few hours. The problems are around it.

Panel battery

A 7 Ah battery lasts roughly four hours on a typical panel. After two years it lasts one. Replace it every two years, we test it monthly on monitored systems.

Gate motor

Most gate batteries are worse than panel batteries. If the gate is your only barrier, a dead battery at 20:00 is an open gate.

Wifi cameras

They go down with the router. Our systems use a radio path for the alarm and a UPS on the router for cameras.
